The China Brazil Internet Promotion Agency (CBIPA) is a private business organization dedicated to attract Chinese companies and investors who want to know better the Brazilian internet market and lead Brazilian companies to explore the Chinese market. Both markets nowadays are among the 4 largest internet markets in the world, alongside India and United States.
According to the CBIPA CEO, In Hsieh, the agency fills a gap in the technological relationship between both countries, which are major economic partners. “China is Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2009 and there is already intense exchange in the areas of infrastructure, commodities and logistics. Now, we this collaboration is also including areas like tech and online companies, “says Hsieh.
CBIPA CEO is a veteran sino-brazilian entrepreneur and the former head of e-commerce at Xiaomi Brazil . The presidency of the agency belongs to Yan Di, Country Manager of Baidu Brazil and President of ABO2O (Brazilian Association of Online to Offline).
“China holds 4 of the top 10 tech companies in the World and has also 4 of the top 10 internet unicorns worldwide. According to Tech in Asia, Chinese Venture Capital funds invested more than $ 60 billion in startups worldwide only in 2015. China can be an exceptional partner to feed Brazil’s Internet companies with a perfect mix of technological and financial resources, “says Yan Di.
The Baidu executive was invited to lead the agency due to the company’s pioneering position in Brazil and its strong presence in the local market. Operating with a ground troup in Brazil since 2014, Baidu Brazil acquired “Peixe Urbano” in 2015, the local group-buying leader and led the opening of the “Brazilian Online to Offline Association”. In 2016, Baidu also announced the creation of “Easterly Ventures”, an investment fund with initial capital up to US$ 60 million to support Brazilian internet startups.
